dconstruct 08
I’ll be attending dconstruct on Friday down in Brighton. It’s my 4th year running, and it’s one of the conferences on the circuit that I generally don’t want to miss. Since the inaugural event back in 2005 when just 70 or so people got together in Fabrica (to talk about the latest buzz, “Web 2.0”), there’s been a very special vibe around the occasion, which hasn’t slipped despite the growth in size.1
This year the subject of choice is Designing the Social Web, featuring such luminaries as Tantek Çelik (whose latest excuse for lecturing us on Microformats is a talk on Social Network Portability), Matt Biddulph, and Jeremy Keith. The organisers at Clearleft normally manage to capture the zeitgeist in terms of the web and what people most want to hear and talk about, and having a theme around the day really keeps people focused, meaning you end up taking away a lot more than you would listening to a wider range of topics in just a short space of time.
I’m going to be heading on down with esteemed colleague, Richard, tomorrow afternoon. We'll be chilling/working from pubs/cafes till tea-time, and then heading on for food, and I believe some kind of pre-party. If you are around, send me an email.

Excitingly, I believe I hold the honor of asking the very first question at a dconstruct conference. To Andy Budd about Microformats [mp3].
